Mortimers Barn Holiday Cottage
Preston St Mary, near Lavenham
Mortimers Barn Holiday Cottage, situated in the rural beauty of Preston St Mary, two miles from the famous medieval village of Lavenham, is a converted, 15th century, thatched threshing barn.
History is around every corner: churches, historic houses, museums, gardens and exhibitions. Natural quiet beauty can be enjoyed by car, bike, horse, or on foot along many designated routes in villages unchanged for centuries, which also offer excellent food and local ales.
The single storey accommodation, which was converted from farm buildings, makes an ideal place to explore from or a cosy, comfortable retreat any time of the year.
The friendly owners are on hand to give advice and information, but discreet enough to just leave you alone.
The recently refitted and redecorated accommodation is on ground floor level and adjacent to the owners main barn. The décor is an eclectic mix of antiques and modern furniture and comprises: double bedroom, sitting room/dining area, kitchen and bathroom.
Guests are welcome to enjoy the three acre gardens which have a hard tennis court (rackets available) and a heated outdoor swimming pool (April-September). There are eight more acres of fields and paddocks accommodating sheep and there are free range chickens wandering around other farm buildings, the eggs from which you can taste in your welcome pack. The owners five small dogs are always pleased to see new faces!
Many species of birds can be seen from your windows, all of which look out over the gardens: moorhens, wild duck, heron and other common species; there is a book to help identify those not recognised.
Tesco Home Delivery Service can be arranged so that all the groceries you need will be waiting for you unpacked on arrival. In the interests of other guests, smoking is not permitted. The pond and swimming pool make the accommodation unsuitable for children under 12 years of age.
