Westleton
Holly Tree Cottage
Holly Tree Cottage is in the pretty village of Westleton, very close to the Suffolk Heritage Coast, in an area of outstanding natural beauty.
The cottage has been beautifully renovated. Built around 1790, it retains lots of character, with original beams and an inglenook. There is full central heating throughout. The cottage is small, but very comfortable and cosy, and has everything you need for a fantastic holiday. It is ideally positioned, adjacent to Westleton Common, but is only about 200 yards from shop, pubs and restaurant etc
The cottage sleeps four, with a double bedroom and a twin room. Downstairs comprises a well-equipped sunny kitchen, a morning/dining room which opens on to the patio and large garden, a cosy sitting room with inglenook fireplace, and a spacious bathroom.
Westleton itself is a picture book village, with a village
green, where the annual Barrel Fair takes place in August,
and open air film screenings, a duck pond, and a 14th century
thatched roofed church. Westleton has two pubs, the White
Horse and The Crown, both of which serve good food. There
is an excellent general store/post office, a restaurant/tea
room for your cream teas and a famous second-hand bookshop.
The area around the cottage is full of wildlife you can lie in bed and listen to nightingales and nightjars on the heath, and hear the deer rutting in the autumn.
The whole area is full of beautiful walks and cycle rides, literally in all directions, and there is so much to do nearby. Apart from the great beaches, Thorpeness has a very safe boating lake, while Walberswick is the place to go crabbing. From here, you can take the rowing boat ferry across the river Blyth to the charming town of Southwold, with its nice shops, cafes, a lighthouse, as well as the famous pier. Minsmere, the flagship RSPB reserve, is just down the road. Children will love the amusement park at Pleasurewood Hills, the farms, zoos, museums and castles, not to mention Sutton Hoo, the mysterious burial ground of Anglo-Saxon kings.
Lovers of the arts can enjoy concerts at Snape Maltings, Leiston Abbey or even in Westleton Church. Nearby Yoxford holds an arts festival in August, and numerous exhibitions take place all year round. Summer theatres, including children's shows, run in Southwold and Aldeburgh.
Bed linen, towels and tea towels are provided, but not beach towels. All heating etc is included in the rental price.
