| Above the pretty riverside village of Ruswarp sits an enclave of stone-built, handsomely tiled cottages. Most are holiday homes, but private and nicely self-contained with a children's play area and attractive field and woodland surroundings.

Danby and Goathland are adjacent and are similar inside, with spacious sitting rooms and well fitted kitchens. Danby sleeps 6 in two doubles and a bunk bedded room, Goathland sleeps 5 in a double, a twin and a single.
Cost: about £270 to £500. Out of season weekend breaks. (Not suitable for pets).
