Bryn Frank, editor of The Good Holiday Cottage Guide:
'Holiday properties in Cley are much sought after,
and you'll have to book well ahead to secure one
of the two beauties here. The historic windmill
at Cley is a North Norfolk landmark, all the more
appealing for being located on the north side of
the delightful village of Cley'.
Within walking distance of the excellent, 'old
fashioned' village shops, The Mill has uninterrupted
views over the sea, the salt marshes and Cley Bird
Sanctuary, with Blakeney Harbour in the distance.
The large walled garden abuts the River Glaven,
surrounded by reeds and tranquillity.
Long known for offering bed and breakfast, under new owners this fabulous place is enjoying a new lease of life for its two self catering holiday cottages, and for the stylish evening meals on offer to cottage guests as well as B&B guests. The entire windmill can be booked for house parties and weddings.
The original stables and boathouses have been converted
into two well appointed holiday cottages. These
are well provided with 21st century comforts while
retaining much of their original character. They
are available (normally on a weekly basis) throughout
the year.
Specifically
Long House is a long flint-walled open-plan building with a vaulted wood panelled ceiling. It has twin beds, or a king size double and three windows with good views over the River Glaven and the marshes. There is a self-contained open-plan sitting room/bedroom with fitted kitchen and ensuite bathroom.
The Dovecote (which it was) has been converted into a snug flint-walled cottage. It has a living area on the ground floor with open plan kitchen, a master bedroom (twin beds or king size double) and bathroom. Stairs lead to a mezzanine gallery where there is a double bed under a vaulted wooden ceiling. Dovecote has views of the Mill and is adjacent to the Mill's walled garden.
