Our seven well equipped and self-contained holiday cottages, all with south-facing views, have been created from the original stone farm buildings. Each is well insulated, double-glazed, centrally heated and has plenty of hot water. Each cottage is provided with a digital TV with DVD, a refrigerator, bed linen and towels. An occasional bed, cot and high chair are available if required. A baby-listening service can be arranged. Other facilities include a shared laundry room with an automatic washing machine and tumble dryers. There is ample car parking. Dogs are welcome, but must be kept under control at all times.
There is plenty to do nearby. Visitors are welcome to wander all over the farm: to picnic, to fish in the river and to see the herd of Registered Exmoor Ponies. The farm - home to sheep, chickens and geese - leads directly on to the Geltsdale fells and an RSPB bird reserve. Opportunities abound for excellent walking and mountain biking. Cycle hire is available locally, with many good routes across the fells on 'green' roads.
There is a very popular pub in the village of Talkin, which lies less than one mile from Talkin Head, and also a choice of highly recommended hotel restaurants within ten minutes' drive. Brampton, the attractive local market town, is only three miles away.
Brampton Golf Course has 18 good greens of competition standard over interesting terrain, welcomes visitors and is only two miles from Long Byres. Opposite, at Talkin Tarn, there are boats for hire and free coarse fishing.
