Castle Cliffe
Hereford
Castle Cliffe was built in the 13th century as the watergate to Hereford Castle, and has been in almost continuous use ever since. At various times the Governor’s Lodge, a private residence and a jail, the house has recently been luxuriously renovated with traditional paints, period furniture, open fires and a four poster bed. Surrounded by parkland, and with riverside gardens and views of bishop’s meadow beyond, the house is wonderfully tranquil and yet only a few minutes walk from shops, restaurants, theatre, cinema, the Cathedral and Mappa Mundi Exhibition.
The City of Hereford is surrounded by beautiful countryside easily accessible by foot or car. The Wye Valley Walk passes within metres of the house, and the Brecon Beacons, Black Mountains and Tintern Abbey are within easy reach by car. Or, if you prefer antique shops and art galleries, pretty villages, tea and cake, border castles and old churches, you can explore the Welsh Marches and local towns and villages such as Hay-on-Wye, Ludlow, Monmouth, Ross, Kilpeck, Skenfrith and Weobly.
