1 Pillory Hill is situated at the end of a terrace of cottages
in the heart of the small village of Noss Mayo. The cottage
looks out over the creek to Newton Ferrers, connected to
Noss Mayo by a walk-way (voss) at low water.
The two villages offer a range of amenities which include
several shops for one's everyday needs, coastal walks, tennis
courts, riding and a deep water anchorage for yachts and
access to the water for dinghies.
The area is popular with walkers. One of the favourites
is a circular walk of approximately four miles that leads
out of the village via the tennis courts, up a steady climb
to the coast path. Once the coast is reached, the walking
is comparatively easy with views across to Cornwall, the
Mewstone and, when there is good visibility, the Edystone
Lighthouse. The path takes one back through the woods along
the river estuary and returns conveniently by the Ship Inn.
There are several good beaches within easy driving distance,
or the small Cellars Beach on the Yealm estuary which is
about a 15-20 minute walk from the village.
