Paddock House Farm Holiday Cottages

Alstonefield, near Ashbourne

Writes Bryn Frank, editor of The Good Holiday Cottage Guide: ‘Peak District cottages are among the most popular in the guide. All our cottages in Derbyshire or Staffordshire seem to have so much going for them, such as easy access from a very wide area, unspoilt surroundings, and the advantage of being in or near the Peak District National Park. Cottages near Buxton, Bakewell, Matlock and Ashbourne (as these are) are especially in demand’.

Just inside Staffordshire, but with the Derbyshire border immediately to the east of the village, we are about two miles north of the famously pretty village of Alstonefield, at the heart of the Peak District National Park.

In the beautiful southern area of 'the Peaks' between the towns of Buxton, Bakewell, Matlock and Ashbourne, we are surrounded by stunning scenery, with rolling hills dissected by beautiful valleys, with Dovedale and the Manifold Valley immediately east and west of the village. The area offers great scope for walking, riding and other country pursuits.

Local villages provide a variety of everyday facilities and Alstonefield has a charming village inn. The nearest shop is at Hulme End, where milk, newspapers and provisions are available, and the nearest post office is at Hartington, four miles away. which also has tearooms, shops and a cheese factory (famous for its Stilton cheese). The nearest railway station is at Buxton, 13 miles away.

Specifically, Paddock House Farm Holiday Cottages are made up of three three-bedroomed cottages, one two-bedroomed cottage and one one-bedroomed cottage. While Ash, Beech and Hazel Cottage are to the same standard as Oak and Elm, which have been awarded Four Stars by Visit Britain, these cottages are ungraded.

All the cottages have new double glazing and full oil fired central heating with individual thermostatic controlled radiators with constant hot water. There is no extra charge for heating and electricity. If you wish to have an open fire in Ash Holiday Cottage or Beech Holiday Cottage coal can be bought from Melissa or Mark. Crisp cotton linen and quality towels are provided.

We are open all year and we are sometimes able to accommodate at the last minute or you can book well in advance. The arrival day is Saturday for seven nights during peak season. We cater for short breaks all year, but during the peak season you can only book a short break 28 days ahead of your arrival. Short breaks start Friday for three nights and Monday for four nights.
