Crosby Garrett, near Kirkby Stephen

This Victorian Baptist chapel conversion has created two very attractive self-contained holiday lets, retaining many original features and furnished to a high standard. There is central heating throughout, log fires, off-road parking and private sitting out areas. Fuel, electricity and linen are all included. A cot and high chair are available. Dogs welcome by arrangement. There is also the use of the owner's tennis court on request.

Mossgill Chapel has a large tiled kitchen with an oil-fired Rayburn, electric hob, microwave and fridge/freezer. A warm utility room houses a washing machine and tumble dryer, plus space for drying walking clothes. An upstairs sitting room has an open fire, beams, comfortable furniture and TV. There are two bedrooms, one twin with en-suite bathroom and one downstairs double with bathroom next door including a shower. Stained glass windows are an attractive feature on the staircase. Prices from £290 - £375 per week. Short breaks at £65 per night. Sleeps 4 plus cot.

Mossgill Loft was a Sunday schoolroom and is approached by a short flight of stone steps. There is a large living/kitchen area, a double bedroom and bathroom. There are lattice windows, beams, an open fire and rugs on wooden floors. There is an electric cooker, microwave, washing machine, fridge and TV. Prices from £185 - £250 per week. Short breaks at £50 per night. Sleeps 2.

Location Crosby Garrett is a most appealing conservation village in the Upper Eden Valley, with the fells only a few yards beyond. An excellent area for walking, both long and short distances, being only two miles from the Coast to Coast route and near the Pennine Way. The Cumbria Cycleway is just a mile from here and Smardale Nature Reserve is within half an hour's walk.

The market town of Kirkby Stephen caters for every need and is notable for its many antique shops. A nine hole golf course is situated between the village and Kirkby Stephen. A number of famous gardens and historic houses lie within a 45 minute drive of the village. Fishing permits for the River Eden can be obtained locally.
