The Locality
There is plenty to do nearby. Visitors are welcome to wander all over the farm: to picnic, to fish in the river and to see the herd of Registered Exmoor Ponies. The farm leads directly onto the Geltsdale fells and an RSPB bird reserve. Opportunities abound for excellent walking and mountain biking. Eating out is no problem. There are two very popular pubs in the village of Talkin which lies less than one mile from Talkin Head, and also a choice of highly recommended hotel restaurants within ten minutes drive. There is a small shop/post office in Talkin. Brampton, the attractive local market town, is only three miles away. Carlisle offers much to visitors, with award-winning attractions and excellent shopping and entertainment facilities. Brampton Golf Course has 18 good greens of competition standard over interesting terrain, welcomes visitors and is only two miles from Long Byres. Opposite, at Talkin Tarn Country Park, there are boats for hire and free coarse fishing.
