| Built in 1787, Bowderbeck is a stunning whitewashed cottage surrounded by dramatic scenery in the quiet valley of Buttermere. There is excellent fell walking in all directions from the front door including Wainwright's favourite 'Haystacks', and pleasant valley walking around Buttermere and Crummock Water. Ennerdale and Borrowdale are also easily accessible on foot.
Bowderbeck is tastefully decorated and full of character with original features including exposed beams and stone floors. The house can sleep up to seven people and all beds are provided with duvets, pillows and linen.
There is a fully equipped kitchen, a comfortable living room, separate dining room and a verandah with a large west-facing balcony with panoramic views of the valley, perfect for a 'G&T' as the sun goes down! There are four bedrooms; one double, two twins and one single, and a bathroom with WC, shower room and a separate WC.
Bowderbeck is in a very peaceful location just outside Buttermere village and has a large garden with original dry-stone walls and a lovely beck running through it. The village is a five minute walk (either on the road or across fields). There are two excellent local pubs, The Bridge and The Fish, both serve bar meals and Black Sheep (the local ale!) and there are two small tea-rooms and shops open in the village during the summer. There are also various other good pubs and restaurants within a twenty minute drive.
The cottage is let by the week, from Saturday to Saturday. Short breaks and long weekends are available during the winter (excluding school holiday weeks). Please see our website www.bowderbeck.co.uk for prices. Sorry no pets and no smoking. |
