You'd hardly know that Cruck Barn, now a spacious and very comfortable Lakeland hideaway for just two people, was originally a small barn for housing cattle.

There is one large main sitting room, which includes a kitchen and dining area. Off this is one spacious double bedroom. The bathroom has wc, bath and over-bath shower. The kitchen has an electric cooker and microwave, fridge with freezer compartment, dishwasher and a washer /dryer. Linen and towels are provided. Central heating, using a water source heat pump. The price includes all electricity costs.

There is a CD player. Please note that although there is a TV and DVD there is no TV reception. Cots and high-chairs are available.

Mobile phone reception is poor at Cruck Barn, but improves slightly as you go up the valley. There is good reception in Patterdale.

The village of Patterdale , the only village in the 'Ullswater Valley' apart from Glenridding, It is the starting point for a number of popular hill-walks, most notably the Striding Edge path up to Helvellyn. Patterdale is considered to be a walkers' valley, and in fact Alfred Wainwright stated that it was his favourite valley in the Lake District as it is not as busy as several others.

Sorry, no dogs.
