Even in terms of holiday cottages in the Lake District, this is exceptional. Built in 1787, Bowderbeck is a stunning whitewashed cottage surrounded by dramatic scenery in the quiet valley of Buttermere. There is excellent fell walking in all directions from the front door, including Wainwright's favourite 'Haystacks', and pleasant valley walking around Buttermere and Crummock Water.
The cottage is tastefully decorated and full of character, with original features such as exposed beams and stone floors. The house can sleep up to seven people and all beds are provided with duvets, pillows and linen.
There is a fully equipped kitchen, a comfortable living room, separate dining room and a verandah with a large west-facing balcony with panoramic views of the valley, perfect for a 'G&T' as the sun goes down! There are four bedrooms; one double, two twins and one single, and a bathroom with WC, shower room and a separate WC.
Bowderbeck is in a very peaceful location just outside Buttermere village and has a large garden with original dry-stone walls and a lovely beck running through it. The village is a five minute walk (either on the road or across fields). There are two excellent local pubs, The Bridge and The Fish.
Sorry, no pets.
