Mr McGregor's and Shepherd's Retreat, two cottages tucked away in the beautiful countryside of Co Tyrone, have been renovated to exacting standards that celebrate the wonderful surroundings and uphold local traditions.
Mr McGregor's Cottage, historic home to the Rabbit Catcher for Beltrim Castle, offers romantic accommodation for two within the Beltrim Estate and although secluded, is still close enough to the village of Gortin for essential supplies. It comprises a cosy sitting/dining room, a fully fitted kitchen with log burning stove and a surprisingly spacious double bedroom with an en-suite shower. A separate loo opens into the small porch which is framed by the half stable door.
Shepherd's Retreat Cottage (sleeping four), on an upland hill farm in the Sperrins, is on one floor and comprises a fully modernised kitchen including dishwasher and microwave, a separate pantry with washer/dryer, a dining room seating 6 around an oak table, a sitting room with open log fire and TV/ DVD, a sunroom which is open plan to the sitting room and offers outstanding views up the river and to the moors, two double bedrooms, and a bathroom.
The Sperrin Mountains are designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and with the wonderful views across the moorland and heather banks, the winding lanes hedged with wild raspberries and 'traffic jams' of sheep grazing peacefully by the side of the road, the accolade is aptly given.
Pets are welcome in both cottages for an extra charge. Basic grocery provisions can be supplied – please request rates.
